Another chicken dead

They were locked up in the coop, and one is dead this morning.

It’s got to be a bobcat, there is a small hole left open for ventilation close to the roof of the coop where it must be getting in.

This is a nightmare.

Crud! I’ve heard raccoons can reach through the holes in the chicken wire to grab and kill a chicken. If it’s not the ventilation area, then that might be something else to look into.

Bummers! You may end up with 8 again! What are you down to now?

We’re down to 11 now, and we know we need to cull at least one (who’s not laying) and possibly two (the second has gone broody and stopped laying).
Last night we put out a trap and tried to hang some bait near the coop. The bait is gone (the pole it was hanging from is on the ground now) but the trap remains unsprung. We’re not sure if the wind knocked it over, or if the animal did and managed to avoid the trap.
If this continues we _may_ end up with eight or under 😦
